Missoula
Woodcarvers 1999 "Caring
Angel"
design and pattern

This
design was submitted by Art Doherty and was drawn by his daughter. It has been
adapted and enlarged a little by Vickie Johnson to be approximately the same
size as last years and hopefully it will be pretty easy to carve. It was
accepted !!!
This
angel can
be done to face either direction and with just a light carving on the backside
to define the design a little. Lightly carve over entire surface (front and
back) to take smooth edges of wood off. Then define the design lines by scoring
or etching with whatever method you like. Round off edges and carve down into
score lines rounding the surface of the carving. Lightly sand and clean all
debris out of score lines. Seal (if you like) and then paint with light washes
of color... flesh for skin, any hair and dress color that you like, white wings
and gold halo.
